It’s relatively soft and easy to drill through but requires proper casing to prevent formation collapse. Productive zones within the Verde Formation provide reliable well yields at depths of 100–350 feet in many areas.

Verde River Alluvial Aquifer Overlying the Verde Formation along the river corridor, coarse river gravels form a productive shallow aquifer at depths of 50–200 feet. These wells have excellent yields but can be vulnerable to surface contamination and may show turbidity during high river flow events.

Fractured Basalt (Upper Portions of Surrounding Terrain) At higher elevations around the Verde Valley, Tertiary basalt flows form a secondary aquifer in fracture systems. These wells require more careful siting and can be more variable in yield.
